นายวิรไท กล่าวถึงการวางแผนเพื่อฟื้นฟูเศรษฐกิจไทยในช่วงนี้และหลังจากนี้ว่า วิกฤติครั้งนี้คงไม่มีสูตรสำเร็จเพียงสูตรเดียวที่จะฟื้นฟูเศรษฐกิจ หัวใจสำคัญของระบบเศรษฐกิจไทย คือ การจ้างงาน แต่เมื่อโครงสร้างเศรษฐกิจหลังโควิด-19 เปลี่ยนแปลงไปจนไม่เหมือนเดิม รูปแบบการจ้างงานก็จะเปลี่ยนไปมาก ยกตัวอย่าง ภาคอุตสาหกรรมและภาคบริการจะใช้หุ่นยนต์และระบบอัตโนมัติ (automation) มากขึ้น เราจะเห็นแรงงานจำนวนมากหางานได้ยากขึ้น โดยเฉพาะแรงงานที่มีทักษะไม่สูงมาก แรงงานในภาคบริการ หรือแม้แต่คนรุ่นใหม่ที่เพิ่งสำเร็จการศึกษา
